Chasing tail in Eastern Oregon

I made another day trip to my local haunt - surprisingly, today was overcast, cool, and even damp due to a few sprinkles.

Rigged up the 2 weight and walked up river.

Picked up a few smaller - 6 or 8 inch trout but managed to hook into some nice fish as well.

I landed two of the largest trout I've caught on this river...both slammed the foam bodied parachute stimulator pattern I've been using as of late, putting quite a bend in the 2 weight. One is in the pic below and one that was a big larger with some serious shoulders slid out of hand before the camera made it out of my pocket.

Fished for a few hours, ended on a high note after bringing a solid 12 inch redside to hand...great day.

Several years ago, I picked up a used zero weight from a buddy of mine. While it may seem like a novelty, you spend a lazy summer afternoon with it in your hand, casting dries to fiesty redsides and you'll be a believer.

My work leases some Forest Service cabins outside of town, and I had to cruise up river to check out some work we were having done. Wrapped that up, and drove on over to the trailhead.

Walked for about an hour, alone on the trail and listening to the river.

River was still pretty cool, with a fair number of bugs out and about - even spotted a golden stone buzzing around.

Caught rainbows on dries for a few hours, and then hoofed it back down the trail to the rig...
