Chasing tail in Eastern Oregon

I had to make a run north of the border for work, and decided to take the long way home and check out a stretch of water I'd never laid eyes on before. This river has a decent population of resident trout, and the annual steelhead run just started making it's way up.

I wrapped up my meeting around noon, and after a quick bite to eat drove south and dropped down into the river canyon. The temp was around freezing, so the snow had melted somewhat leaving the dirt road a mess...

The river itself was beautiful - it was obviously high, as the grass along the banks was covered, but the color was good. Temps were cold though, as most standing water was frozen, and I didn't see any hatches coming off.

I fished and played around for a bit, mostly scouting holding water for steelhead, which should be showing up higher in the next few weeks. Packed it in mid afternoon and drove out an even worse road than I drove in, crawling up a dirt track to the plateau above in 4wd and 1st gear...

I'll be back, just a matter of when...
